About

Hi, I'm Pilar 👋

I'm a Senior Digital Product Designer based in Vienna, originally from Costa Rica.

I studied Industrial Design Engineering, which means I didn't start with screens. I started by thinking about how things are built, how systems connect, and how people interact with them. That perspective still shapes the way I approach digital work today.

Over the past years, I've worked mostly in healthcare, sustainability, and operational environments. Many of the products I've designed support medical teams, factory technicians, or global partner networks. These are tools people rely on to do their jobs properly, so clarity and reliability matter.

How I Work 🤝

I'm comfortable working between business, engineering, and users.

I like understanding technical constraints early so designs stay realistic. I care about business goals because they shape priorities. And I rely on research and user feedback to guide decisions.

In several roles, I've been the only designer in a small team. That meant facilitating workshops, aligning stakeholders, defining MVPs, and working closely with developers from concept to implementation. It also meant making practical decisions about scope and timelines.

I'm not interested in over-designed solutions. I prefer interfaces that feel clear and steady, especially in environments where people are under pressure.

AI & My Workflow 🤖

I'm currently completing an MSc in Digital Economy with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and digital ecosystems. My thesis looks at how humor influences user experience in AI-powered customer support.

In my daily work, I use AI tools like Claude Code and Cursor to prototype faster, test ideas, and explore different implementation approaches. They help reduce repetitive tasks and speed up early iterations.

They don't replace thinking or design judgment. They simply make certain parts of the process more efficient.

Outside of Work 🌿

I enjoy making things with my hands.

Jewelry and small goldsmithing experiments. Sewing. Photography. Books. Traveling when I can.

I like learning new tools and techniques, whether digital or physical. That curiosity tends to show up in my work as well.

What I'm Looking For 🔍

I'm especially interested in working on products related to healthcare, public transportation, or thoughtful digital services.

I would love to be part of a team with strong design maturity, where collaboration between designers, engineers, and product managers is taken seriously. I enjoy learning from other designers and exchanging perspectives.

At the end of the day, I care about building useful products in environments where quality and responsibility matter.
